Which also includes 3 mp3 lecture downloads. I already listened to them and they are very informative. Here are some photos of how we do our timeline.
I put the index activity cards inside the sheet protector. These are from Close to My Heart "Flip Flap Memory Protectors" but you can just get any small size photo protector from Hobby Lobby and just add adhesive to the back of the edge. You can flip them up or out.
I asked if she made them herself and she said she did design them. I was so tickled that you can embroider on toilet paper. This is her etsy link there are lots more really funny saying to pick from. Here is how I did it. I use Charmin Ultra Strong tissue paper. I use two sheets of tear away stabilizers that I hooped in the 4x4. Then I just float the toilet paper over the stabilizers using my grid to know where to place it. That's all there is to it. Oh and just cut around the stabilizer so that it follows the perimeter of the tissue square behind the design. Keep the stabilizers on. I embroidered on the third sheet in the roll which works best to be able to wrap it around again, so that the design is in the middle.

After seeing so many of the Frozen Elsa finger puppet. I thought what about having a Chicka Chika Boom Boom inspired tree as a finger puppet. So I posted a question in my embroidery/sewing group and someone offer to make it for me. She digitized it and had me test it out. Bless her heart she was under tornado warning but worked with me to make it perfect. Here is the link.
I practically visit the local library several times a week. There are many online links for parents to download and help supplement their children's education so teaching can be a breeze. I saw this set of the popular "I have You have" flash cards covering the American Revolution that included the historical figures, main battles, events leading up to the revolution etc. Before laminating the sheets to make them sturdier, I printed them out in black and white and color coordinated them from the question with the answer card.
I find it fascinating how they use historical letters and writings to portray the historical figures and events.

I found this very interesting classroom board. Here is a look at her blog lots of information that can get you motivated. I just love the idea of using coins to make the date since it's a great way to reinforce learning about money. She also has great links to where you can print out Bible Verses too, like the one I have there. I like the Date board but found that it was hard for me to hang the flip pages so I just decided to laminate blank pages for the Day, Month, Date and Year. It can be wipe off easily (I use baby wipes for this) and dry eraser markers. I used what I had on hand which were scrapbooking refill clear page protectors. I cut them so that they can both fit 8x10 sheet of paper but I glue the back down so that the openings face each other. This way if I had a sheet of paper that needed to be display horizontally I can slip it into both protectors.
I never really paid attention to this until this year when I notice quite a few of my friend on Facebook posting photos of all the things their elves were up to. They look like they were having so much fun and who doesn't want to join in on the fun. So I looked all over and they were all the same in terms of the adoption fee. I think getting it mail directly was a cool idea since it included everything needed and no need to print stuff out from your own computer. However, I also like a good deal. Bed Bath and Beyond offer the elf for adoption and allows you to use your coupon ;-)
I introduce the elf to the children without touching him. It was later in the evening so I had to wait to register him but my internet provider serve failed so I was not able to print it that night to have for them in the morning. But that gave me additional time to make the authentication even more special. Later that day I showed them the kids the Adoption Certificate and the special sealed letter straight from the North Pole from Santa. My kids both agreed to name the elf Jerry after their favorite cartoon character from Tom and Jerry. lol
I also found this great link to a wonderful mom who thought of ways to incorporate faith and holiday tradition. She also included a special letter from Santa to explain how the elf will teach them more about Jesus and the true meaning of giving and Christmas. Elf On The Shelf Jesus Style you can click and print out your own letter.
We tried different ways to block the stairs but our little guy is such a climber. I'm so glad I saw this idea on pinterest and I had some fabric on hand that would make it cost effective.
Instead of using batting I had some quilting fabric which already has a light batting in it. I really like the duct print I got from Hobby Lobby it makes it look like an iron gate.

We couldn't secure this gate down without also blocking out our other preschooler. The front entrance look a mess. My baby who was born premature at 34 weeks is now a 1 year old. We celebrated his miraculous birth by having dedicated to the Lord at church. Then we continue with the birthday celebration with fun and food. Most of everything I made myself with the help of pinterest and youtube of course. Everything I'm going to show you will include DIY links (I'll post as I go)
I substituted for soy milk and used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter for all diary ingredients. I skipped meringue powder because I couldn't find it in the baking aisle. I probably didn't know what it look like to look for it. Separate portions out and add food coloring if you like.

They are so popular for photo op. I was also looking for a diary free one and couldn't find local bakers to make one for me. I saw this cake on Pinterest. Of course where else would you find anything your heart desires to make. I have to say I'm not a baker. I mess up recipes all the time but this time I solicited the help of my friend in CA. Boy can she bake you a cake. Her work is amazing. She sent me a few online links for tips. First how to make your own buttercream frosting because the can frosting will not hold the shape it's too soft to decorate on.
This is how to frost the cake to make it flawless. This gives it the look of fondant but taste so yummy. You can just bake a cake out of the box and it'll work too even though they are softer. However for a diary free and egg free my friend gave me this recipe.

It's called Crazy Mixed Up Chocolate Cake: 3 cups unsifted all purpose flour, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa, not Dutch process (whatever that means), 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups sugar, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 2 tablespoons of white or cider vinegar (that's right vinegar!), 2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2/3 cup of vegetable oil, 2 cups of lukewarm water. Pre-heat oven at 350 degrees. place a sifter over a bowl and sift all your dry ingredients together then add in all your other ingredients and mix. Or you can do what I did and that was to just mix everything without the sifter because I miss this step. You can now pour mixture into your baking pan. Smash Cakes are normally about 6" so get two of those. I wrapped the pan with these Wilton Bake Even Strips soaked with water so that the cake will have a more flat top.
For the decoration I just use candies. I made the lollipop with twister string in red and green color. For the ice cream topping. I just used extra pieces of cake and rolled it into a ball. Frosted it with icing and tripped some melted chocolate chips.Janette's Minuteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06633284910952990218noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805805445359594177.post-24167939694040453202013-11-08T11:33:00.002-08:002013-11-08T17:57:33.076-08:00DIY giant Pom Pom hangersThese were part of my Candy Land Theme "Gum Drop Mountains"
Starting with one side then the other side. Flip it over and do the other end. You'll have a big pom pom afterward but you'll need to hang it or else it'll get misshapen. I saw it on a youtube link I'll add once I can find it again.

and knew my boys would have so much fun and it fits with the Candy Land Theme! Now they didn't mention this in the other post but in order for your spray paint to stick well. You'll have to lightly sand down your your plastic pvc pipes. Just lightly make one pass is fine. I stuck the completed shooter on a chopstick (stainless steel easy to clean) then spray. It dries nicely.
as a party favors for the girls at my son's 1st birthday Candy Land theme. I made marshmallow shooters as a party favors for the boys.
The materials you'll need to gather are:
1. tulles (I bought mine by the yard it's cheaper and you can get much more pom pom than the
spool one. It was 3 yards of whatever color I wanted. I picked green, pink, red, blue. I'll show
you how to cut these out down below.
2. something to make the wands. You can get dowels and decorate it with ribbons. But I found
these glitter pencils that were long enough. Plus if they want to sharpen it they can be use as a
pencil.
3. glue I used E6000 can be found at #Hobby Lobby.
4. your template

I found a really great idea for the template that was so much better than any other templates I saw and this works so much better when you want to add multiple colors tulles. Video tutorial for the Pom Pom. I made my template out of paper box from one of my kid's toy. I traced the lid of a pot to make the outer circle and then I traced a smaller spray can for the inner circle.
Once you're done adding all the colors you want. I added another red color after this. You will pull to tie the pink strip together. It doesn't need to be really tight just enough to keep it together. Then you will slowly cut down the center of your folded template making sure not to cut into the cardboard template itself.

I attached my pom pom with E6000 glue make sure it's well ventilated. Just use a dowel or in my case I found some really decorative glitter pencils. I put glue on the eraser part of the pencil and place it down on the middle of the pom pom where I tied it up and held it in place for a little bit for the glue to take. Then I stuck it in a bottle to let it dry some more. Really cute results.

Brothers machines is a pain in that it's so picking what works for one person doesn't work for another person. My friend can get away with using just her spool that attaches to the machine but she has to use only certain type of spools shape. She can't use the normal cylinder spool. Well

I found out another quirk to the Brothers machine is that your lower bobbin thread that is white will show though on the machine only because it's on a thread stand. See the difference it's like magic. I put it the exact same spool on the thread stand and wow it all works perfectly. So no need to hunt down "special brand of threads" that your machine is particular to. Put it on thread stand first. I'm curious to know what other quirks you've notice with your machine. I bought the heavy duty cast iron thread stand not the plastic lightweight JoAnn's brand.Janette's Minuteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06633284910952990218noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805805445359594177.post-29286724313112990952013-09-07T00:25:00.000-07:002013-09-28T19:21:47.983-07:00Troubleshooting Brother SE400 "Upper Thread Breaking"Oh my goodness this Brother machine gave me headaches. It's so picky unlike my older model Kenmore (noisy machine). Well, I've youtube and I checked the tension. I just didn't understand why sometimes my machine would fine and then it wouldn't. For me it was an easy fix. #1 the problem could be the type of needles use because I forgot to switch out the embroidery needle for the sewing needle. Needle sizes. #2 Improper thread type on the machine spool. I have a mini king spool embroidery thread that was small enough to fit on the machine but it was best to get the thread stand for it. Just to be safe I added the mesh netting that came free w/ the SE 400. #3 It could be that the thread you use is fine but the spool that it's on has jagged edge around the edges or the caps. In this case I filed down the part that stuck out. Sometimes I put the spool in direction and I place the other end in at other times. When the jagged edge was place facing in first the thread didn't break because there wasn't anything to catch on. But if the jagged edge was showing then when the thread feed through it would break. This explained why sometimes when working on a project it worked and other times it didn't even though I used the same spool of thread. I have a youtube video to show you want I mean. Here is the link. There were suggestions that maybe the thread quality was to blame and you have to buy the expensive name brand or even the Brothers brand. I'm glad to tell you that for me this was not the case. I just got my beautiful, high quality but inexpensive embroidery thread set from Threadart.com. I get my normal sewing thread from Hobby Lobby or JoAnns just Coats and Clark I believe is the brand. Of course I used my 40% coupons. Also check out my other trouble shooting tips for lower embroidery thread showing through your project. click hereJanette's Minuteshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06633284910952990218noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7805805445359594177.post-35325932511379785402013-08-28T22:07:00.000-07:002013-08-28T22:13:40.825-07:00DIY Nerf/ Dart Ammo Belt with Buckles closures easy projectHi everybody if you have a little boy who loves Nerf war then you have to make him an ammo belt.

It's not good to go into a Nerf War and run out of ammo especially when it comes to parents vs. kids. Parents have no mercy lol. I say Nerf but really I find that their products aren't superior to any other generic brand toy dart guns that are sold at ToysRUs, Walmart or Ross. Nerf products are a lot more expensive than the generic brands and we've own all types and they all work the same. The differences are the dart sizes. There are SLIGHT differences which makes them not interchangeable. I've accounted for this difference in making the ammo belt to work with all dart sizes whether it's the generic brand or the Nerf brand. First of all the Nerf brand blue darts are slight longer which will cause them to jam if you try to fit them into other brands guns. However, I've notice that the generic brands all work pretty well with each other even with a tiny bit longer darts.
Materials you'll need are:
1. long scraps of fabrics. I used old cut up jeans for the main portion of the belt as it is sturdy material.
Measure diagonally to determine the size of the strap you want. Leave a section for the belt buckles. The width of this folder strap should be slighter larger than the added ribbon camouflage pattern that holds the dart itself.
2. Belt buckles

I bought this one from Hobby Lobby. They frequently have 50% off on Sewology brands so stock up!

3. 1" Nylon straps

4. Ribbons. I used size 1.5"x 5yrd GRN/BRN camouflage pattern

5. Elastic strap. I use a tan color to coordinate with the camouflage pattern

6. Coordinating threads

Now let's get started with the sewing project. Make sure that your material is right side out. Step #1 Lay out your elastic strap making sure to fold it over and tuck it under the folder ribbon strap. Sew this into place first. Then measure using the magazine holder to determine the perfect fit. Take out the magazine and sew a straight line. Repeat again for second magazine slot or other weapons. Step # 2 is to take your dart. I recommend using the generic brand darts to measure since they are slightly bigger so it'll fit the bigger size as well as the thinner Nerf brand. Pull the dart out and sew a straight line. Repeat these steps till the hold straps is covered. Step #3 fold your material in half right side together and zig zag stitch straight down leaving a quarter inch un sewn at the ends of the denim strap. I used the Overcast foot on my Brothers sewing machine similar to the serger foot. Step #4 turn inside out, tuck in the ends and add on the nylon straps and sew that on to close the hole. Step #5 is to follow direction on how to sew the buckle in place from the male and female end. The strap should be able to pull to be adjustable to different wearers.

I used a lighter to burn of the ends of the cut nylon so that it will not fray. Fold 1/4inch then sew in place.Video visual for you on youtube. I have to give credit to another blogger for the idea of using ribbons to hold the ammo. I just modify it to be a camouflage pattern for a cooler effect.

I was on Facebook and I came across this quote again at the same time that my son, who is doing well with potty training, yells out "Daddy! Come wipe my butt."

We don't trust that he'll do a good job by himself. I told my hubby my plan to add the quote to his potty training photo and he laughed out loud. He knows it's true what real fathers do everyday for their family. He works hard all day and he is always available to do whatever his boys need. You can do all kinds of editing without photoshop program. Just use this free online photo editing site. Have fun and laugh out loud every day.

It's difficult to say which is harder trying to get your child to pose for the right effect or messing around with photoshop. Well, I'm going to try and help with the photoshop part so good luck on capturing that perfect pose. Open the iphoto icon on your dock. Select under iphoto Preference. click on the Advance icon and select Use Raw. Click on General and select In Adobe Photoshop element. Then an PSE will pop up click on the Open button. Click on the image you want to import over to Adobe. For the first picture up top create another layer for the Text. Type out your child's name in desire font. Size your text. Highlight each letter and select the color you like per letter if you choice. I added a date to the bottom corner. For the second photo once you get your photo imported into PSE you can change it to black and white by selecting Image--Mode--Grayscale. Or you can slowly change the saturation, hue, lightness, sharpness to whatever shade you like. Create another layer and import your child's artwork. Grab the rainbow and drag it into the black and white photo. Click on the rainbow to size it where you want. In order to see the other black and white photo underneath to know where you want to move the rainbow just change the Opacity from 100% to around 63% enough to see through. Then click on the erase tool and erase away the paper outline of the rainbow to what you like. change the Opacity back to 100% and your artwork is on top of your black and white photo. I love this idea from Smart Class Blog. I realize that the effect looks much better if each layer of rainbow color is nice and thick leaving no space between. Still looks cool though. Here is some bloopers photos.

for a pattern I just trace a pair of pants that he currently fit into. I cut out a pattern on cardboard so I don't have to pin thin paper to the fabric in order to cut. Usually I would use give wrap papers since they have a grid on the wrong side. The different with this pants and the earlier version is that the elastic waist band is only half way around the back. The front is straight with button holes for the suspender. Notice that the front piece of the pant legs I tapered it on the top since it will be flat with no elastic running through it. I don't have a serger so I use an overcast foot which gives the look of a serger. Sew the front leg pieces together from the crotch to the top of the pants. do the same with the back pants legs. Then with right side together sew from one pant leg all the way to pass the crotch area down to the other pants leg. Clear pictures I saw on this tutorial here. Cut two long straps for the suspender. I saw this idea here I made the mistake of making the straps too short so I added another section to it. I like the look plus when he outgrows it's it's faster to just take this part out and add longer length. I also make it longer and just move the placement of the button as needed. The button hole foot was extremely easy to use. Last I just roll up the pant leg and stitch the cuffs. I am going to make matching pants with pockets for the older siblings. I got carried away sewing and didn't stop to take more pictures as I go. I will update with more photos when I make more.

I made a couple of these and they are fabulous! Never have to buy expensive heating pads again. Help those sore muscles with these homemade packs. In Asian this idea is very common. I saw reminded of this when I saw it on pinterest. Great to use up your fabric scraps. Just sew a square or rectangle. I added the flannel fabric to help it retain heat better. I also added adjustable elastic straps to the pack. This will keep the pack in place more. I need mine to stay around my belly after having a baby. Before you sew the piece together pin the elastic bands on the Right side of the fabric. Right sides together zig zag stitch. I used my overcast foot which gives the same effect as a serger. Happy to save money not having to buy a serger. Just get the sewing foot. I further reinforce it with a straight stitch about 1/4 inch seam allowance. Give yourself an opening probably best to do this after you sew in the elastic band first this makes it for you to turn your project. Turn it right side out and fill the rectangle half way with rice. Then tuck in the raw edges and sew close the opening. There you have yourself a heat pack! Pop it in the microwave for a 1 minute for smaller 4x4 or 2 minutes for larger size. Depending on your microwave strength you can fiddle with it till you get it so it doesn't burn your skin. Be warn it can get really hot! Make more smaller version without the straps to freeze and put in your lunch box and go on a picnic.

There was a sale on fabric as well as patterns so I went and got this cute pattern for a doll dress. I just love the girl prints. I just have boys to sew for so I decided to get a doll and sew clothes for it plus I think it would make great b-day gifts for a little girl who plays with dolls. This pattern from Simplicity is for an 18'' size doll. As this was my first time working with this pattern or any pattern for that matter, I didn't take pictures. I will update with picture tutorial. Just wanted to quickly jot something down for my blog. I like to sell these and wonder if there is a market for them. Or would people only buy them if it also comes with matching little girl's dress. Babies love to chew on tags and I just love this idea of making tag with a personal touch. I made this one with the first initial of my baby's name. It was very quick and easy to make definitely a beginner's project that is sure to please. Pick your coordinated print fabric. I chose this robot one from Hobby Lobby and on the reverse side I use a softer flannel with construction vehicle prints found at Joann's. This article suggest that you just print out block letters from your computer then use that as a template. I love this idea from All Free Sewing. However, I didn't want the letter to be too small if it was printed out of a printer. The letter "N" was easy to do I just use a ruler to make the template. You could also use your electronic die cut machine (mine is a Cricut Expression) to cut out the letters. Remember that you would want to reverse the letter for second side.

then you want to pin the tags to the right side of the heavier weight fabric. You want to make sure that the head of your pin is position on the inside rather than the other edge. This will make it easier for you to remove the pin after it's sewn.

Now you lay your other side piece right side together. Pin it and sew all the edges leaving a space about 2'' to make it easier for you to turn your project right side out. Remove the pins.

We donated lots of baby clothes so by the time our third came along he didn't have size 6-12mos clothes. He needed some pants quick and I found this oh so super easy pattern that can be done in countless fabric patterns to make for girls or boys. The same concept can be use to make larger size pants. This is my version of adding adjustable elastic waste band. Thanks to this neat pants tutorial. I made this from left over brown jersey knit fabric that was use to make a type of Moby Wrap sling .
